Ditto for DIY

I lost my chapstick AGAIN the other day so I decided to embark on a DIY adventure in lip palm-making.  Who knew it was so easy?  There are two great websites on instructions and how to create your own recipe at Bleu Arts blog and Not Martha

Here’s the recipe I ended up using (I had all of these ingredients at home, thanks to Mike’s DIY massage oil ingredients):

Solids: Beeswax, Coconut Butter

Liquids: a massage oil blend of avocado oil, olive oil, vitamin E and a bunch of other oils.

Coloring: a piece of lipstick

I really should have put in some essential oils because the beeswax scent is stronger than the sweet coconut smell, but I didn’t have any handy.  Next time I’ll remember.  I only made a small batch to fill up an old lipbalm container and know I will make more in the near future.

FYI: I saw The Dark Knight last night and am sooo mentally drained by it.  It’s a fascinating story, with superb actors, blended with a healthy twist of ethical philosphy and a chunk of hot Christian Dale.  Maybe I’ll blog more about it later once I get my head wrapped around it more.

No longer homeless/My beachy days

You have no idea how happy I was yesterday: Mike called me at work to let me know that we have a new home!  It’s been many months of Craigslisting… intially fun but finally excruciating.  This is when the lesson of rejection kicks in: when perfectly nice, responsible people with income are repeatedly denied housing.  Well, I’m exaggerating because we only ended up applying to about 5 places but situation after situation just blew up on us, like a soda can that’s been on a bumpy bike ride.  We finally found a sweet 1-bedroom on California in South Berkeley but the hunt was long and hard.

Anyways I wanted to mainly share with you the weekend I spent in beautiful Bolinas/Pt Reyes area.  Mike, Sequoia and I came to visit Lana at the mill/farm she’s staying at in Dogtown.  What a wonderful piece of land to spend your days–there were chickens, goats, rabbits, Mastiffs, little yappy pups, a mini-farm and a whole lot of serenity.  Madison was also in town that weekend so we found an empty beach to spend Saturday night.  For about half an hour, Sequoia and I were the only two warm-blooded creatures on the entire beach and I felt glass-shattering freedom.  We drank some wine,  ate some peanut butter, saved some shored-up jellyfishes and we were happy folks.

The day after, we spent the day at Limantour Beach which was also astounding.  Naptime, skin burns, jogging along the kisses of the ocean, sandplay, and stuffing huskies under self-made shaded tents.  I feel a longing to be by the beach again–I was tempted to want to go back to San Diego and live in Ocean Beach.  I miss the OB pier and being woken up by the morning breeze… I’ll be back in San Diego soon.

Modeling makes money

I’m not much of a talker so I always pass by opportunities to talk about myself. From an outside perspective, I am involved in somewhat unusual activities but I’ll only mention one today.

Let’s talk about this unusual subject of modeling that have found its way into my life in a few different ways. You say: Model? Ky? No way! But wait…

I’ve had the same hands my whole life (I swear) so I didn’t realize how well-figured and attractiveKy Ngo recommends her herbal intestinal cleanse they were until I went to Vietnam for the first time. Vietnamese people tend to pay an adequate amount of attention to hands so I received almost celebrity status for my little hands from my family and Vietnamese friends. For a summer, I played with the idea of becoming a hand model, learning about the field, doing lots of research, nothing but idle work. Somewhere in there, I decided it was too hard to pursue this professor so I neglected my hands for a few years and now have accumulate a nice set of scars–gentle scars but scars nonetheless. Not to mention I never took the time to really learn how to give myself manicures. I’ve always had strong sturdy nails so never bothered to learn how to prevent breakages, peeling, etc.

I’ve recently reignited this modeling chase but again, I’m lacking the patience and care that a hand model needs to succeed. My hand modeling pursuits have not completely faded but I need some helping ‘hands’ before this career is gonna go anywhere. Anyone wanna teach me hand and nail care…?

Sequoia handsome as ever

To make up for my unrealized dreams as a model, I’ve diverted my energy into marketing Sequoia as a dog model. So far, I haven’t been persistent enough in contacting agencies but maybe this will be a work in progress. I hope they make another Snow Dogs movie or something of the like–he’d be perfect!

Mike got a modeling gig a week ago–discovered on the streets of downtown San Francisco by the top stylist of Vidal Sassoon! We were eating at an outdoor table on Powell when a woman, Nicole, asks Mike (who by the way was wearing my trendy vest with a furry neckline) if he could be in her hair show. I was so envious but I got my share of the deal with she agreed to cut my hair if he could commit to it! I was satisfied.

The show was last week and the female models had AMAZING haircuts. Nicole is like an artist but her medium is hair and her tools scissors and combs. The salon is really impressive; lots of funky haircuts that actually looked flattering on people, instead of tacky. It lifted my confidence in salons especially after my bad experience at Peter Thomas Salon. I got my haircut from Nicole today and I am very pleased with it. She sculpted it really well and I had such a great experience with her.

So there you go, you know how to look for if you need dainty hands, pretty wolf-dogs, or well-textured hair :P I’m serious…

My writing to blossom

Wow, so it has taken me THIS long to start a blog.  A stubborn one I am, I’ve been resistant to creating an online identity.  Sitting in front of the computer during my free time is about as fun as tidying the corners of my bed and using my own spit to clean up dog hair that’s completely smothered my carpet.

Why am I doing this?  Am I a transformed Ky, a techie blog master now?  Well, let’s admit that I’m pretty sour when it comes to keeping in touch.  I’m sorry everyone, I have so little spare time and when I do have time, I’d rather be alone, at a dance class or taking a walk with Sequoia.  I thought this would supplant my lack of existence in the social world.

Let’s also admit I’m a totally cool person exposed to revolutionary ideas and people all the time!  I don’t like to talk much so when I try to communicate with people telepathically, they just don’t get it.  I’m transitioning to words now!  Aren’t you happy?  You should be ecstatic that I’m sharing my life with the world now!  Or not… stay tuned for some superb prose and aiming-to-be-superb photos!
P.S.  That’s Sequoia up there in my blog header.  I’m so blessed to have my own personal dog model for my photography.  Thanks Koya!
